The journey to diagnosis began with a trip to my local GP. I went in armed with examples of autism traits and was ready to fight my corner. I didn’t need any of that. After saying I felt I was autistic, and wanted to be assessed for this, the GP set the process in motion.

I was due to get feedback for my Work-Based Learning interview. I looked at my watch, 11:59 a.m. It was scheduled for 12 p.m. I am nothing if not punctual. I would wait one more minute. Lena didn’t scare me, I felt okay around her. But the process of knocking on a door terrified me. I’m not really sure why.
