This is my first Poirot book and I’m surprised by how little of him is in it. He’s taking a back seat to other characters. Also, I had the impression he was an insufferable egoist but he’s actually a rather lovely fellow. I think Branagh has him pegged: Sad and sentimental and determined to know the truth.
