Carl Lee Hailey killed two people. The number two is said to mean peace love or charity. I find this ironic because he killed those two men. Maybe later there can be some representative of love or peace between these men.

I will talk about why I chose this book. I chose this book because my Mom recommended it to me. As a kid she read the whole series and she had all the books in my house. She found them and told me that I would really like them. These were one of her favorite books when she was younger and she loves that I am reading them now and we can talk about the books together.

I will talk about the conflict in this book. The conflict is that Jake Brigance has to prove Carl Lee Hailey innocent. The problem is that they know that the whole jury will be white. Racism in this time was very bad and if you are a black man accused of something in this time, you are almost always going to be convicted guilty. Jake Brigance has to figure out how to overcome this problem.

The story archetype in A Time To Kill is overcoming the monster. The monster in this story is racism. Jake Brigance has to help Carl Lee Hailey become innocent even though all of the jury is going to be white. At this time it is almost impossible to become innocent.

The conflict of the book is that Jake Brigance has to help Carl Lee Hailey be innocent. The problem is that Carl Lee is black and they already know that the whole jury is going to be white. This book is both setting driven and plot driven. It is setting driven because the case and the struggle of this case would not happen it weren't during the time of racism and inequality. It shows how unfair this time was during this book. It is also plot driven because everything takes place because Carl Lee Haley killed those two men. Many event occurred based off of what Carl Lee did.

Jake Brigance is the dynamic character so far in this book. There is a lot of racism in the town and he still wants to help the black family with their case. He is scared but powers through and becomes more mature while taking this case for a very low fee for the family. He progressing with taking this case.
