Fascinating, although slow going. Ambrose packs his text with incredible and interesting detail, the way I wish history was taught to me. Historical events that were memorized for history tests are fleshed out as real issues that happened to real people. Ambrose has a gift for placing the reader in post-revolutionary US and revealing the real people behind the exalted names.
