Jem went to town to buy himself and Scout something because he had a lot of money saved up. He bought Scout a baton and while they were walking back home they noticed that Ms Dubose wasn't outside so Jem grabbed Scouts baton and started cutting up the flowers and he also hurt scout. He has to apologize to Ms Dubose and she makes him read to her for 2 hours every Sunday for a month. She is very sick and passes away.
