In Son, the main archetype is Quest because Claire, the protagonist, is searching for her son and answers about him like his name. This is difficult for her because her community does not allow her to meet her son so Claire has to find ways to see him, like helping at the nurturing center. I can predict a future archetype will be voyage + return because Claire may leave the community to look for him then go back.

After Claire finished climbing out of her village, she made a deal with a man named trademaster to get to her son in exchange for her youth. When she gets to Gabe, her son, she is old and he is grown and does not remember Claire. Claire watches Gabe and observes him. Claire gets sick of old age and explains her story to Jonas, who explains the story to Gabe but Gabe does not believe him. They must prove it to Gabe.

Currently in the book, Claire is being trained by Einar, a boy in the village, so that she can travel to find her son. She runs up hills and does pull-ups to strengthen various parts of her. When she is finally strong enough to take on a journey of going to find her son, she does not want to leave because she misses open arms and Alys who has taken care of her for so long. She gets the courage to go on the journey.

My favorite character in Son Part 2 is Alys because she is caring and motherly to Claire. When Claire arrived tired and hurt to Alys's land, Alys did not throw her out but nurtured her to health. She is concerned about Claire and asks her stuff like why she has a scar on her stomach. When Claire gained back her memory of why she was there in the first place(searching for lost son), Alys was there to comfort her.

A symbolic archetype in Son is the loss and then learning of color. When Claire was in her home community, she and everyone else could see no color to keep everyone the same. When Claire went outside of her community on a different communities boat, Claire was able to learn things she was not familiar with in her community including different colors, plus animals, children's unusual games, and unusual words.
