Christopher discovers more about his father, more specifically the affair with Mrs. Shears and discovers his violent side, when he admits to killing Wellington. Later, Christopher then finds letters hidden by his father from his mother. He then decides to move in with mother. He runs away from home. I am really enjoying the book so far, and am eager to see how it concludes. These events show father in a bad light.

Mother and Father reconcile to a degree, with Chris living with mother and visiting father. After Chris's rat dies the father buys him a puppy to create a bond between him and Chris. Chris and mother move in together. The important theme is transition, as the characters are adapting to new environments. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it has been an emotional rollercoaster and the mystery was well written.

Christopher's primary suspect is Mr.Shears. When he tells his father that, his father gets very angry and tells Christopher never to say that name again which makes me wonder if Mr. Shears hurt the father or if the father is angry at Christopher. This develops an understanding of one of the themes, Christopher's lack of sympathy as despite his father being angry at him, he carried on looking for the killer.

A key topic so far has been Christopher's father not wanting him to discover who killed Wellington (Mrs.Shear’s dog). That gives the reader the rather far fetched idea that Wellington was killed by Christopher’s father himself, and this is the reason why he does not want Christopher to explore this matter. This is key because it gives the reader the first hint of who might have killed the dog.
