Writing continues to tell in passing rather than include us in the ride. It took way too long before the actual kidnapping even happened, and conversations are overly long and boring. I've skipped most of a chapter that introduced a seemingly random side character and gave us an entirely too-long backstory I didn't care about. As much as I feel like I know where the romance of this is going, I don't "feel" the pull.

Very slow read for me. Any excitement that an event might manage to build gets too soon, usually with a lengthy conversation that draaaaags. I think our hero summed it up best when he said something along the lines of: "Let's go. We need to hurry and we've been talking too long." The latest couple of chapters dumped the excitement by skipping time, and leaving me wondering if I missed a chapter 🤔

S.l.o.w pace 🥱 Based on the synopsis I expected a rousing, exciting start. But instead, we've dawdled on Dan's disappearance, the h's hugely overreactive response to it, and then fast-forwarded almost 2 years...and now we're dawdling some more on the h still being numb and living like a nun.....Keep in mind that she only knew Dan for about 1 year. Her reaction continues to seem like a major overreaction imo

I'm not loving the writing so far. Lots of telling the story instead of us being along for the ride with the heroine. Even mid-scene it'll switch from dialog between characters to things happening without us being included (i.e the detective asking a question, but there's no dialog...we're just told he asks her a question). Our h also went straight into freak-out mode which seems like a bit of an overreaction.
