Notes:
(1) Boy, as if I needed a reminder of how difficult this series can get, I had to start the first issue over again three times before I got enough narrative purchase to proceed.
- Reading this dialogue feels like trying to makes sense of an imperfect foreign language translation.
- Not that I'd rather it be dumbed down, but being a little simpler would go a long way.

Notes:
(1) The last third of this book has a couple shock twists that really come out of nowhere.
- Suddenly the plot's about cannibalism and nuclear fallout. Both make sense but pretty much come out of nowhere.
(2) This book is bookended with really aggressive, nonconsensual kissing.
- I don't know what it says about the characters involved, but it's definitely deliberate.

Notes:
(1) The Lord Doctor's home is reminiscent of a Himalayan palace: somewhere in Tibet, Nepal or mythic Shangri-La.
- Another stellar-looking architectural/geographical landscape by Sana Takeda.
- The setting, alluding to centers of Buddhist devotion, underscores the mystical/religious nature of the Lord Doctor character. Maika even says she mistook his army for a cult.

Notes:
(1) I wasn't so keen on the last book, mostly since there wasn't much of an adventure aspect. It was a very passive volume, the main group never left Pontus the whole time.
- I have more hope for this one. Based on the cliffhanger, there's a built-in urgency and cause for exploration.
(2) I like that Kippa gets her own storyline. She's probably my favorite character.
