Lots of pages to go, but are they actually going to get to the city? Maybe this book is all about the journey? Very well written, enjoying my time.

I have no clue as to how this book will end. The machinations that are happening are thrilling to try and unpack. That said, I still think about that bison or buffalo thing that they "met" on the road and what it is or how, beyond the immediate, it impacts the story.

Assassination attempt!? Fish soup! Things are getting serious. Our poor boy Crispin has certainly wandered into the deep end of the pool

Chariots! And meeting the imperial court/emperor for the first time. Good stuff! Very tense.

What the...what was that thing? A huge bison? This story just got 10x more interesting. I wonder how much looping back around to these characters is going to happen. I'm digging Crispin for sure and can't wait to see how much Vargos and Kasia get integrated into the story.

Holy balls, a real alchemist! This could get interesting if there's a little bit more of fantastical elements, we'll see.

This Petrus seems like a character that will be fun to follow. This prologue was wild and complex but not hard to follow on the whole. I'm sure more will become clear. I don't hate the writing, it's very smooth.
