Notes:
(1) This starts, at least, with a totally different artistic tone and palette.
- It's no longer a strictly black and gold, dark-steampunk aesthetic. Now it's a lot of turquoise and brown with a very Victorian, British Raj look.
- It both marks this phase of the story/journey as distinct and bestows the seaside city of Thyria an architectural and communal personality.

Notes:
(1) We finally get an overarching objective for the series, which is to reassemble the fragments of a magic mask.
- Which isn't too surprising. I mean, the whole point of carrying around a broken piece of something is to put the thing back together. It's essentially a puzzle piece.
(2) This volume totally reframes Maika's mother.
- She's such a complex character now.

Notes:
(1) Kippa is sort of like Sophie from "Saga." Not just that they're kid sidekicks rescued from slavery, but they both possess a psychic ability to sense and locate things.
- I don't know if this is some common trope I'm unfamiliar with, outright copying or just a big coincidence between Image Comics' two most popular series.
(2) Nearly all men are animals, literally.

Notes:
(1) I expect this volume will feel less dense and difficult than the first one, which was like being thrown into the deep end from the very start.
- I believe I have an adequate enough grasp of the world and most of the major characters now.
(2) I especially look forward to learning more about Tuya, who's been the biggest mystery, despite how much she's talked about.
