Warman’s work of ‘Breathless” is a realistic story overall, and a good portrayal of a dysfunctional family. Warman draws out Katie’s emotions and her complex life and family with immediacy. There is a broken family, mental illness, drinking, the pressure of athletics and schoolwork, drugs, smoking, and sex. All of these have the potential to affect a teenager’s life, and they ought to be in her single book.
