" We heard FIRE! And looked out the window, it was the synagogue burning with shattered glass everywhere." I'm guessing this is Kristallnacht because of what is being described which makes me wonder what's coming next in the book. Based off my knowledge of WW2 I'm guessing they will put up the Berlin wall next.

"I had wished for a bomb to fall on me, but I lost even having that hope." This line shows how little hope there was in the camp because they had hoped for death but even lost that hope.

"Camp after camp but for some reason this one felt different." This line makes me think that this will be Yanek's last camp before the war is over or he escapes. Also this is his 10th camp and on the blurb in says ten concentration camps.

"They made some of the prisoners be the boxers and forced the rest of us to watch." This shows how cruel the Nazis were because they made malnourished and sick people fight to the death just for their entertainment.

"What do all these little kids think? Do they just see us as animals?" This shows how different the world was back then because seeing people trapped in zoos treated as animals would send anybody with morals over the edge but back then it was different.

"The Nazis gave us half a loaf of bread, and told us it was to last the whole trip." If that is supposed to be a lot of bread for them I would probably die of starvation like Fred within 2 or 3 days.

Right for the dad, and left for the mom and little boy. He cried out “Dad! Where are they taking you?” This line is showing how the Nazis split up families because they didn't care about the wife having pneumonia all they cared about was more labor and more death.

"I cried, begged. Waiting for them to kill me. But gas didn't come out of the showerheads. Water did." This line has been messing with my head because I'm wondering why they didn't just kill them right then and there. I'm guessing it's because they wanted them to have to suffer longer.

"My advice, stand on the exhaust vent so you die quicker and have less time to suffer." This line shows how discouraged the Jews got because they were trying to kill themselves as fast as possible so they didnt have to suffer any longer.
