Eleanor betraying Henry II along with all their sons is crazzzzy to me. All to ally with her ex, Louis II??

Henry, whether through luck or real skill, came out on top against all 5 of them in addition to subordinating the Irish Crown, that is a gaggg. Definitely a high point in Henry II’s reign.

Thomas Beckett can chokeeee, he turned on Henry the second he was appointed as chancellor-archbishop and he payed for it in the end getting chased out of England. What a way to squander power, why bite the hand that feeds you??

Eleanor!!! I stan; Louis VII reallllly messed up letting her go. Wonder how different the map of Europe would be even today if their marriage hadn’t been annulled.

Third time reading this book and it’s just as good. Historical narrative may be my favorite genre of all.

William the Aetheling’s death changed history and I can’t help but wonder why they were so reckless with his life when his importance was very clear. Henry I’s greatest failure is this, not securing his heir! A pity, really.
