This has become my favourite book of the series so far. I admit I have a soft spot for Margaret but still, the pacing of the story, the writing and the tension and the inner self righteous belief of being God's chosen one is what makes this book marvelous in its perspective of Margaret's story and her POV is insanely good and so rich. Philippa's prose seems much improved from the previous books.

"I'll keep him safe,' For a moment our eyes meet, but we exchange nothing except a grim determination to get this parting over, to get this exile underway, to keep this precious boy safe. I suppose that Jasper is the only man that I have loved, perhaps he is the only man that I will ever love. But there has never been time for words of love between us, we have spent most of our time saying goodbye." 😭

I'm in a bit of a reading slump bc I've been writing my master's thesis so I'm feeling a little stressed 😥 still I wish I could have the time, i miss summer

"I shall think of you: in your grand house in Lincolnshire with Henry Stafford while I live here without you. The castle will seem very quiet and very strange without you here. The stones stairs and the chapel will miss your footstep, the gateway will miss your laughter, and the wall will miss your shadow. (...) I will keep him, even though Edmund and you are lost from me." Jasper will miss her so much 😭

I am crying by this depiction of Margaret's labour, this is so heartbreaking and gut wrenching I am in tears. I can't imagine the pain she went through, she was a baby herself, only 13. I'm so grateful I don't have to imagine it or go through this but this is making me so upset

"I blink. "Lady Mother, are you sending me away to live with two full-grown men, to Wales, on my own? When I am twelve? She shrugs, as if she is sorry for it, but that nothing can be done. "It's a good match," she says. "Royal blood on both sides of the marriage. If you have a son, his claim to the throne will be very strong (...)" this is horrifying, she was so young... I want to puke.
