Thorndike comes from old New England stock. He is what people mean when they say "Yankee," when they say "WASP. " and maybe that's why he's not repelled when friends blithely suggest that he warehouse his father in a nursing home. I am. I am stunned, angered, and repelled. Who are these people? How did they become so utterly selfish? And short-sighted.

I was at the library to snatch the next book club discussion title from the reserve shelf when I decided to browse for a few minutes. So it was utter chance that I picked up this title. However serendipitous, I'm grateful that something put this book before my eyes, though it is a harrowing read for someone who cared for an elderly parent.
