Impulse bought in Waterstones. I don’t think Higgs quite gets the deliberate irony and melodrama of the Devil May Cry series. His argument that Blake‘s presence acts solely as “goth window dressing” is fine in isolation but I’d argue it’s underdeveloped — he laments the lack of a specifically western ironic voice and is in a way blindsided to the fact that the goth window dressing is in itself parodic.

Isaac Lewsey Like I agree with his argument but I just think that DMC5 is reacting to this windowdressing-ification of Blake in a slightly more knowing way. It’s not emblematic of Blake as goth shorthand because in a way it’s mocking what Higgs identifies — even if it does it to the point where it wraps back round to sincerity.
