Character Feelings: I think Sam was feeling hopelessness. I believe this because he'd been on his own for 2 days now and he stated to contemplate whether to end it. I feel for him because he tries so hard, but bad keeps happening. "He had had enough. He was only nine. A terrible voice inside tempted him to give up, to let go and drop down and make an end to it. No more fear. No more pain."

Prediction: The group ran into mutated monkeys from the zoo. Multiply kids were killed and kidnapped. This set in a knew fear, animals could be infected. I predict that the group will run into more mutated and infected animals later on. Posing as another challenge among the many others. On Page 179 it states "They had huge black eyes, ragged ears, and long yellow fangs strung with saliva and spotted with blood."

Tough Question: The group of kids traveling to the palace have a question of worry. Fear ensues inside them and they fear they might face a new challenge. They hear rustling high in the trees as if something was moving around. On Page 174 it states "A twig snapped. Something was moving through the trees. 'What was it?' 'Grown-ups, maybe.' 'They cant climb trees,' said lewis. 'How do you know?' said josh."

I predict that small Sam will make it back to the group and join with them. Small Sam has been alone on a journey, he was kidnapped by grown-ups early on and has been alone since. Sam though, being alone, has been persevering trying to get back with the group and meet up with his sister Ella. "He would have to go faster. Which way to go? Which route would the other kids have taken?"

I'm catching on to an again and again moment happening in my book. This moment is the reappearance of Arran's mother. On page 133 it says "He was back in Portugal with his mom and his dad. Lying on his back, sunbathing." The reappearance of his mother, conveys that he misses his childhood. Putting deeper thinking into the harsh setting that Arran is in, and the things he has to go through without his mom and dad.

Sam had a challenging question. When he got back to the mall chased by grown-ups he was given no response when yelling. Sam had felt devastated. Loosing all hope to survive. And it really does make sense because in and apocalyptic setting, if you loose all of your people you really have no hope. On page 115 it states "Awful thoughts came into his head. What if there had been an attack while he was gone?"

Characters Motivations: A side character, small sam, was kidnapped by the grown-ups, He had escaped them, and carried a motivation with him to aid him. The motivation was to get back to the other kids and be seen as a hero. "He cheered himself up by imagining what others would say when he got back to waitrose. 'Sam, your alive!' 'Nobody's done that before.' 'You're a hero!' 'Tell us about it!'" (page 104)

Tough Question: The question to leave or with or without Callum. The odds were 58 to 1, and Callum would not leave the Waitrose mall. Text evidence showing Arran's struggles are shown on page 94 "He was sick of the sight of the place. 'Callum.' he said steadily, 'anything's better than staying here and dying one by one.'" This shows the struggle of Arran trying to convince Callum to leave with the rest of the group.

Arran thinks back to the moment when he got bitten my a female grown-up (what they call zombies) and he remembers his mothers face. The grown up that had bitten him, had the face of his mothers. This just created an emotional moment for him, because not once had he thought about his mother in the past year. This moment could possibly change the future events in this book by putting this burden onto Arran.
