soviet chapter is a must for everyone. being raised by soviet jews, i realize so much of their own history is lost on them, and even to the world. you’re telling me the soviet union promised jews safety in yiddish centers, only to persecute them, when they were the intelligentsia that brought russia its culture? i think even just this chapter is necessary to read to understand jewish identity
