Zoey asked herself "how is it fair for the kids who are on top of stuff to have to share classrooms with kids that aren't?" (pg.42). This question revealed a lot of the inner struggles Zoey has while interacting with her peers. It seems to me that at this point, Zoey does not think highly of herself and almost seems to feel like her life is always going to be rough, while others have live that are seemingly perfect.

This book caught my attention right away. I was intrigued by the main character's struggle to maintain the expectations of being a kid, while caring for her three younger siblings. The main character, Zoey, has the ability to be acutely aware of emotions and interactions around her. It makes me wonder - is this a natural strength of hers or something she needs to be aware of in order to survive in her world?
