Doran is a dynamic character because while he begins in the novel as a self-absorbed, rich prick he is grounded by the love for his crew (especially Solara) and a new appreciation for the working class. In the end of the book he is more compassionate and less self absorbed.

Starflight is a mixture of many genres. It is primarily fiction, with a lot of science fiction elements, romance, and action adventure. Two enemies are stuck on a spaceship filled with pirate felons and eventually fall in love.
