As usual the historical note and the research behind deserves the 5 stars. In fact it's awesome.
But the novel, well, dunno. Well written of course but lacking some more tension, more adventure in the historical half of the book. Loved the scene on the broken bridge.
In the contemporary side I wasn't too fond of the oh so beautiful, so smart, so insipid neighbor. I liked more Alastair but he gets so short a part...
