It's not a romance, it's a self referential book about racism in the publishing industry. Which is fine, but I recently read The Other Black Girl, which was way more subtly written than this. This feels like a teen novel - some bits of it are quite sweet but the main character has depression and so the book isn't exactly cheering me up.
