I don't mean to get heated with these things, but please give me some other perspectives on what you think of this review from a couple years ago (and mainly the comments):

PeaceOfGod Its 2024 and there are two kinds of political spectrums, one where you either straight up say Nazi-shit like "weLL Was HiTleR ACTUALLY WroNg thOuGH?" --in the name of freedom of speach.
And the other is, where you're a transphobic for not painting your nails on pride month.
I dont get it, you didnt mention any race in that review and still that woman called you out for something ....you..... didnt say?

I really don't want to get into what my "side" is because I don't think Goodreads is the place for those discussions, but I didn't think I said anything to suggest I had an opinion one way or another, especially about the h being a particular race! I appreciate you sharing your perspective, thanks ☺️

floralmess Honestly i totally get your point. reading is like an escapism for me also, so i usually avoid stuff in books that relate to me or anything like that. I think she was just reaching everyone is allowed to have their opinion and voice but if you thought that that book is way too realistic for u. U can do whatever u want with this realization, honestly the way she worded it was just offensive and put words in ur mouth for simply just saying that this book is not for u.

Paige I don’t get how she got you talking about the FMCs African heritage from you saying you don’t want to read anything political. I get why you were offended because you said nothing about race!! She seemed to be talking out her ass honestly lol.

Juniper Oh boy, I hope she puts some ice on those muscles she must have pulled from reaching so far. Your review was fine, you don’t have to explain anything further than what you did. Most people who aren’t looking for a ridiculous fight wouldn’t even think twice about your comment. The fact that she thinks an h with African heritage is political says more about her than it does you.

Ale It's vulgar, but no one would ever mistake me for a sweet flower, so: there's an Italian saying that goes something like "The first one to complain about the smell is the one that farted".
I.E. in a more diplomatic version: people with biases project them on everyone around them.
Even sorter version: it's them not you.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I wouldn't say it was too realistic, but it definitely wasn't something I was enjoying either -- and isn't that why we read?! She rated it 2 stars, so she obviously didn't like it either! I feel like it was just an attempt to instigate something, especially because this review was back in 2020!

Thank you! I was totally triggered myself because I didn't understand where that came from

Thanks, JJ, for sharing. I feel the same and if "this review always confused" her to the point of commenting (and commenting the way she did) 4 years later, then I feel sad that she is still thinking about it tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️

Haha! We always said "whoever smelt it, dealt it" but I get your point. Thank you for sharing Ale 😉

Ree People look for things to get upset about online. It’s crazy. You’re all good. Nothing you said was offensive and I completely agree with your point. It says more about those people that they trigger so easily.
