I finished the book. Artemis Fowl finds a way to rescue his father from the Mafyia and tricks them. He shoots his father with a fake blood bullet, as his father falls in the ice water he has a rescue team there to get him. He also gives for ransom money fake money that diasppears after a few hours in the open air! It ends with him back in the counselors office. Overall I did not like the book. It felt very childish.

The fairies got trapped but Artemis wants to continue on because he is so close to finding his father. We find out Foaly the captain of the centaurs is a traitor and plans to kill all the "mudmen " humans and rule the planet. There is are lots of gadgets the fairies have a flat nose shell which contains compressed amounts of water which when activated gives out gallons of water and recharges in the snow!

Artemis and Butler, his body and the LEP police with Captain Holly go to a meeting point and realize it is a trap to kill them. They run and catch the Mayak train in the snowy Russian plains. Artemis happens to have some acid drops to detache a train compartment to get away from his followers. He and captain Holly are injured in train crash . Holly loses a finger Artemis is healed by captain Holly's fairy magic.

Chapter 8 after enduring the goblins dealings with the mudmen in Paris thru the assistance of the fairy police who all live underground and have chutes that connect to large cities. We find ourselves now in Russia where Artemis is about to arrive to try to rescue his kidnapped father but the kidnappers are vicious and want to kill both the father and the son. And are trying to lay down a trap for them.

This is the story of a genius 13 year old. His father was a crime boss and has a large empire . This is a world that has very techie humans but also fairies and goblins . Artemis is the hero and his father's ship was sunk in Russia. He gets a video that his father is alive and a ransom will be asked.I like the story of the genius teenager who is smarter than his therapist. I don;t like all the invented tech language.
