The best friend of the main character, Liesel, is Rudy Steiner. Rudy is a very colorful character, because he is very kind but also your typical 10 year old. Very rambunctious, mischievous, and clever, Rudy is also a victim to hunger. His family is very poor, and cannot afford much food. Rudy's identity in this book in a metaphorical sense would be the devil on Liesel's shoulder, but as well as the angel sometimes.

If I could interview any character from the book, I would interview Liesel. I would ask her about what she is going through and what she is feeling. She might reply that she is trying to stay calm and happy, even though her father isn't there, but instead in the military. She would also say that life is becoming harder and harder each day that passes, and she wants her father to come back to her side, and comfort her

In the Book Theif this past week, a couple members from the Nazi Party came for Rudy to train him for the army, because he had won three of four races a few chapters back. Then, as punishment for Hans (Liesel's foster father), they accepted his application into the party, but put him straight into the army. Then, both he and Rudy's father were sent away to the training camp, and both families don't want them to go.

The character of Liesel has come very far in the book. She has gone from a small, frightened child, to a more caring, understanding, confident girl. She has more guts to do stupid things, where as before she would shy away from pretty much everything. When she first arrived at her new parents' house, she was terrified, but now she acts as though Rosa and Hans have been her parents her whole life.

I chose to read this book because I had heard a lot of good reviews from my friends and family, so I thought I would give it a shot. This book is so compelling from it's fantastic story and its setting. I've never really read too much about WWII, but this book makes me want to learn more. This book shows that I have become a stronger reader because it is a much harder read, and a more in-depth read as well.

If I had a choice, I would not like to be a character in the story, new or already existing. This is because the book takes place in WW2, in Nazi Germany. If I chose any character that was already existing, I would be punching myself in the mouth, because every character in the story has a really sucky life, and some of them could be killed at any moment (Liesel and her family for hiding a Jew in their basement).

The exposition in this book is very very well written. It can go into deep detail about some of the characters, or their thoughts and ideas. The exposition can also be very mysterious and give some suspense for a short time leading up to the not-so-grand reveal. Still, the explanations and descriptions that his book gives of some surroundings is awesome, and I can imagine that I am really in the story.

In this past week of reading, in the book, Max Vanderburg, a Jew, has arrived at Liesel's home seeking refuge from the Nazis. Hans and Rosa Hubermann take him in and have to adjust to a slightly new way of living. Eventually life returns to normal mostly. Also, Liesel's and Max unknowingly at first begin to bond, because of their shared interest in reading.
