I absolutely hate it when people refer to someone’s platonic friend who is a girl as their “girlfriend”. I’m a lesbian and whenever I say “girlfriend” I then have to explain that, no, she is not my friend, she is my romantic partner, because people like this insist on misusing the term. It only happens with people of the same sex too. As if it’s silly to think that they might be romantically involved.
