Like other readers, I find the alternating chapters confusing and disruptive. Confusion is compounded by both authors being named Mary and having friends or relatives named Jane and Fanny. Even the biographer shares a name with Lord Byron! Some of the events in the MW sections have bearing on the MS sections. SPOILER: For example, we should know about MW's suicide attempt before learning of daughter Fanny's suicide.

Like other readers, I find the alternating chapters confusing and disruptive, though I can see the reasoning that led up to this device. Looking forward to reading 50 pages a day, at least, unti the book must return to the library, no renewals permitted.

The end of Chapter 8 (the future life of Mary W's one-time student) was one of the most positive revelations I've read in a long time.
