So far, throughout the book the protagonist has showed bravery. Since her house is haunted, she has learned to deal with the ghosts and her Aunt Ro gives her sage to cleanse her house saying, "It's important", Ro said, "to usher good energy in. Proactively"(39). While reading I have come across some unfamiliar words. One word that was new to me is the word, Sweltering. Based on the context, "She met us in the kitchen, In her church outfit, a button-down flowered dress that had long sleeves and a skirt down to her ankles, even though it was sweltering today. (155) The context helps me infer that sweltering means hot or warm and was used to describe the weather.

This is a big change for me because I usually read realistic fiction novels. I have found myself really enjoying this book because, I love scary novels and the setting is scary.

The setting of the book Amity takes place in a haunted house. This has a big impact and negatively effects the people living in the house. Gwen's aunt Ro is concerned and scared for Gwen and her family because, when she visits them she notices the house is very old and is haunted. She is so concerned she asks Gwen how she is holding up living in the house and gives Gwen sage to burn in oder to cleanse her house....

Since I normally read realisic fiction novels, I wanted to try something new. I chose to read the book "Amity" because, I love horror movies and mystery books so I felt like "Amity" would be a good choice and a way to take me out of my comfort zone of just reading realistic fiction. I feel like "Amity" is really interesting and suspensful so far. "Amity" will definiantly keep me just as intrigued as previous books...
