Happy to be completed with the soldier stories portion of the book. The man was a genius, but I'm finding it almost intolerable to spend anymore time on the battlefield, among officers and soldiers of the U.S. Civil War.

I'm finding this book slow-going but that says something unfortunate about my attention span. Bierce was a remarkable writer, a master of the short story form.
