I'm torn. It's truly a three star read because of many narration and characterization problems, but the melodrama and the real strong love vibe make me wanna love it more.

Although Cindy's change seem sudden and unreal....

Cindy has redeemed herself with a smidgen of humility and openness to learn and accept and change.

Urrrrg. Cindy, you are an asshole. Patience and kindness and understanding is all well and good, but daaaayam, you are shockingly emotionally immature, painful to read.

"It was striking to see such an imposing, potentially dominant man behave like a frightened child, curled docilely between Zander and me." Aw, man, this is more like a three star read because of the religion and stilted secondary characters, but the ridiculously strong feelz at Nate's crisis just destroyed me, so I'm feeling a four.

The tension of Nate finding his way and his boys struggling to help him is the momentum that keeps this story compulsive reading despite the repetitive sugar at times.

Oh man, Cindy is such a user. I dislike her enormously. Yes. She's only fourteen, but fourteen is old enough in my eyes to be an adult. She may not have the life experience of a, say, forty-year-old, but she damn well should have learned human empathy and lost that two-year-old solipsism. She's a parasite on Nick, and Nick has too little self-respect, which is not helpful for himself or Cindy.

But it's addictive. I can't stop. Just another snickerdoodle page...

Oh gawd, the constant cheezzzze is getting to me. The only thing their idealized, constant 'I love yous' and 'we'll always be togethers' and 'three become ones' is doing is making me roll my eyes. Once was cool, sweet, romantic; twice, 'k, that's good; thrice, mmmm, clingy; forty times? Stop.
