Huh. I wasn't expecting that. This book does have a very nice story, although I still think it would've worked better if it had ended around the 75% mark.

I do definitely see why this novel is known for being so feminist. I'm not exactly an expert on the topic, but I imagine this was pretty radical for the time.

I guess this was before the era where climaxes were supposed to come at the very end of a book, and it was acceptable for them to happen more like 50% of the way through. Although then again, Great Expectations had its climax towards the end, and it was written around the same time. I don't really know.

Okay, there's finally a reason for the ending, which really just feels like an extended epilogue, to go on this long. But this just isn't compelling. This overly-long ending is by far the weakest part of this book. I was thinking the rating would be four stars before, but this ending is enough to bump it down a half-star, maybe more.

No, seriously, did Bronte have a required word count? The plot is over, just end already.

I'm a little confused as to why this book is still going on. The natural ending feels like it's already passed, and what we're getting here just feels redundant.

That was not at all what I expected Jane to do, especially given the time when this was written. Very nice.

The dialogue is still pretty bad, but this is otherwise a very good book. I'm not quite sure why it's SO famous, but it at least deserves to be remembered.

The delivery of that plot twist was so detached and rushed. Like, Jane just discovered something huge that should've been devastating, and we basically saw no emotional reaction from her. Which is weird, because for the most part, this book seems to be trying to get into Jane's psyche - I have no idea why Brontë would suddenly decide to be so cold and emotionless.

I guess it was just the beginning where the dialogue was bad, because it's improved quite a bit. I'm actually rather enjoying this book. It's not the best thing I've ever read or anything, but I like Jane as a narrator, and the prose is beautiful.
