Food with a pre-capitalist aura/flavour: 'You couldn't buy fresh figs. Whoever had leftovers didn't sell them, it was thought to be shameful. Everyone had the right to enjoy figs, along with fresh air, the sun and the sea. You were free to cut as many figs as you wanted when you passed a fig tree, and the owner would urge you to cut some more.' - Themelina Kapella, Kalymnian folklorist. :)
