I'm annoyed by the little parentheses. I appreciate the explanations, especially when it's a translation of a German term, but they interfere with the narrative.

I just realized that I don't have a mental picture of any of the characters. That happens when suck at narration and descriptions, and you don't even bother to describe your characters.
