There is definitely a connection to be made with the book’s political overtness and the state of the world at the time of its writing, but I just can’t parse it. So far, the this book’s secret society seems a bit silly, but the protagonist knows that, too. Like how Oceania in 1984 retains power for the sake of power, The Process is nonsensical for nonsense’s sake.
