but I'm excited to see if he does what Athena was scared of and just what exactly that is 👀

So she stopped birthcontrol on purpose without telling Odysseus so she could have his child...

That feels SO icky

But it is Greek mythology?? (I'm trying to justify it lmao so I don't become a hater on main again)

Also I so badly wanted there to be a positive woman relationship but she just sent all of them away out of protectiveness for her child and distrust....which I get but they just tried to help her :/

Back to previous point, Aiaia is a place that aimed to cage & control Circe, instead it became her freedom to discover who she is in safety, & it acted as the same for the nymphs. So to not highlight that angle and work a relationship between Circe and other women and instead have her cater towards men and want to BEG a married man to stay for her feels less feminist then intended but still has important themes(?)

ALSO if Miller wanted to take a feminist route I'm sad she turned EVERY nymph into a mean girl and this distance & lack of connection between them & Circe when there was a great opportunity for commentary on bonding over the hardships of womanhood and how they've been shunned woman together by men. But also how the patriarchy can force women into these roles but women can help guide each other to being themselves

Okay I think it's flopping for me right now cause the pace has slowed A LOT
But ALSO because her attachment and near obsession to Odysseus is frustrating to read and counter-productive to her development after everything she's been through and endured. Her desire to "fix" men and cater to them is relatable and well written and clearly a product of her loneliness but the Odysseus sections feel void of Circe :/
