Maggie Gyllenhaal directed a movie in 2021 called "The Lost Daughter" starring Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, and Olivia Colman. This book is that movie. I can't explain it any other way. The story is in front of me but I'm trying to find the substance within the different parts. Like, I know there is something there, but I can't see it yet. Did I catch Murakami at a point where he's only writing for himself?
