Perhaps my favourite Murakami book. Norwegian Wood is a close contender for that title too.

So, I can see that this is quite different from Murakami's other works that I have read. That otherworldliness that comes across in Murakami's books is not (yet) present. It is good so far, but that sense of magic/fantasy that underlies his world is somewhat absent. I've read Kafka, Windup-bird and Wild Sheep Chase, btw.
