I was very excited for this book, but so far I’m disappointed. It has all the ingredients for a super cozy, magical story. But there’s just something about the writing that makes it seem childish. I think an editor could have chipped away some of that, but there’s also a too-sappy-sweet sentimentality that’s crammed into the prose & dialogue (to the point where the conversation feels forced). It’s too much

I don’t like this book. The only reason I’m finishing it is because I pre-ordered it and the cover is so pretty. And I wish I liked it but I don’t.
Idk. It’s just melodramatic and repetitive and slow. And it’s kind of implying that only physical/sexual love is real love or the only way to live with your loved one? Idk idk. It’s annoying me a lot.

The audiobook is a little better of an experience vs just reading with your eyes. But. Still not loving this. Powering through while I have the audiobook out from the library. But Lottie’s a bitch, and Marigold has no empathy. What she wants, what she thinks is best, is the way things should be. So I’m not routing for any of these characters and/or couples. So sad.

I had no idea (from the description or the cover) that this took place in an 1800s setting? You’d think that would be amped up or at least mentioned somewhere. Totally reworking expectations of this. It definitely threw me.
