MV is on page 49 of 128
This is very well-written and doesn't hesitate to show stark reality as seen through the eyes of an 11-year-old girl. In the first few chapters alone we have Cammy coming of age while witnessing / experiencing struggles in her community and family, like family rifts, the challenges of elders in a nursing home, bulimia, alcoholism and hard economic times, etc.

Sarah Mac As a fellow dead tree aficionado, I’m impressed that you still have so many of these old Troll/Scholastic grade school books. 😬

I do have a large number left! This particular copy was purchased recently, however. I have a thing about tracking down copies with specific covers and in as good a condition as possible. I've always been very particular about that for some reason but I'm not stopping now LOL

MV (I actually never owned this book before - I had read it at school a long time ago, though I don't really remember what happened in the story beyond the cousins not getting along and Cammy's aunt criticizing her. I decided to get a "new"/old copy and re-read it)

Sarah Mac I was going through my old grade school books late last year & found some goodies—those yellow-spine Nancy Drew hardbacks with the old skool artwork, Island of the Blue Dolphins, The Borrowers, & a few others—that made me want to reread them. 🙃 I wish I still had my old Sweet Valley Highs, though. They were original early-80s covers that I inherited from a family friend & then I gave them to my cousins years later. Ah well. The memories live on.
