In a few hours, in overwhelming numbers, they would charge the muzzle of our guns while claiming patriotism and martyrdom. The ideal of Americanism had been twisted so as to become a mirror opposite.

Pot, meet kettle (again).

Beneath my camo jacket I had on my tactical vest. The right side of the vest had six 30-round magazines for my AR. The left side had my 45 Sig Saur auto with two extra magazines above it. Along with my 45 auto, I still had my 44-40 Colt revolver strapped to my hip. I had been unable to part with it and the weight of it resting on my thigh was comforting.

Oh, and there's another paragraph or two in the same vein.

This is a first. A new to the story firearm and there's no footnote to tell me more about it. That said, this is the third time I've heard what brand his boots are.

For realz? He has to add a footnote to esplain to the reader what loaded for bear<\I> means?

Getting ready to bed down, fortunately we didn't get the brand name of his hat, but we did for his boots and the calibre of his six-shooter.

Not once, but ,twice in two pages we get to hear the brand name of his thermal underwear. This is first person narrative. A show of hands of those who think in their heads about their clothes and recall the brand name in life and death situations after a nuclear bomb.

I'm not sure what's harder to swallow. The good, kind, wise Dad (with a capital D) knew enough of the future to stash all those survival packs of food and water over all those backroads leading into Timbuktu southeastern Utah, or that the son is so damned savvy he can find them all in ten feet of snow.

He has no right to hurt or injure another in those choices and if he does not hurt or injure another, what business is it of the government?

Oh, the irony of when it's OK to injure others when it's one's own cause...

One can only hope the author and friends experience the full weight of responsibility for their choices...

Is it really necessary to add a footnote to explain every piece of firearm mentioned? Talk about overkill.
