Can't believe we finished this. The battle chapter was incredible. Mind blowing. Han takes the stage and then the shocker-- Ackbar arrested! The HUMOR in Zahn is insane. The subtle but totally crack way it rolls, like the mole miners eating away at the ships that act like injured animals. We're just thrown with the glory of it all, and all our story-making inspirations ugh!! This is writing, as I want to write. <333

Luke's grand war theme plays again as he single-handedly holds off Han & Lando's rescue ambush and decimates all his Imperial captors. Captivated by his larger-than-lifeness, how with his power he so cute wield himself an emperor in the galaxy. And yet how ordinary & small he feels when in his POV. Gosh so Luke. And when he feels the Force return to him... like he understood the universe again. Basking in the glory.

Forgot to update our reading last time!! GAH THE BIG REVEAL. Mara's identity -- right hand of the Emperor. What a great twist gOSH. The whole chap had our jaws dropped. Luke's mercy saving her, using his lightsaber again wooo! And earlier Leia, Lady Vader by the Noghri. wHOA. So much awesome in this book. So stoked for how Zahn will pull out a love story from it. I can trust him not to make it cheesy and cheap. ;))

Man almost a month since I was making progress! Finally read up to this point wR. LOVE the world-building economics used by Lando to discover the power pack was Luke's. POOR KARRDE everything falling apart in his hands.

So Luke and Mara are finally alone. *snort* No but really... I'm loving the mystery of her and all the angsty moments when she shoves the blaster up his neck to shut him up. (sorry I'm trippy tonight) ALSO R2 FEELS. Luke protecting R2's life. Karrde and Thrawn meet. Oooh! Sympathies on Karrde.

I'm on such a SW high rn it's cRAZY. We went to a comic shop like WHAT and bought Shattered Empire. Then borrowed How SW Conquered the Universe and started reading. My life passing before my eyes. Before all this, read such awesome Luke here. Caught. Using his fake hand to escape. Luke/R2 feels. Warming to Mara's Heather- and Luke-feisti -ness. I can't wait til R gets to this. My mind is so blown it can't function.

Listened for almost 3hr today and had so many feels it might have contributed to my headache (plus pressure of Trek story). The sheer technical realism in the X-Wing/Chimaera fight blew my mind. Luke's quiet strength (not being afraid while lost in space), then he's caught! Negotiating for his life and the pang of not wanting to give R2 over to slavery. FEELINGS MAN. And Thrawn's setback by Luke ooOOoooh

Listened on way home from LA. Guhhhh Zhan is king. Of all the incarnations of the original trio I've read so far this is CANON. Military and weapon world building, Luke's Jedi thought process and doubts, Han's wit and beliefs, the fight of wills w. Thrawn vs C'Baoth. Luke's getaway from the Bimms was like watching SW for reals. And btw Luke is totally what I aimed for in hiccup goashhhh

Awesome progress via audiobook on way to LA. Exactly an hour of listening! Enjoyed the equal sparring of Thrawn and C'baoth, their strengths respected. Nice strong characters. Still unsure about this Force-avoiding creature. Warming to Mara and her secret grudge with Luke (Heather feels). Marc's reading helps make her more down to earth than I thought reading her myself. Also love Karrde's coolness/curiosity.

So impressed. Luke's POV section of poignant, deft, and in-character. Develops the new place these characters are in so effortlessly and off-screen. Luke's pain at being in Coruscant and having to lead a new political government is tangible. So is his third orphaning with Ben's last appearance. Han's dialogue with Dravis is very well done too. Dang I'm gonna enjoy this. One day I'll write EU fiction. HBD to me.
