The author presents a very worried tone by describing that Anna has to leave her parents on such late notice because her parents don't have a great relationship. On page 21 Anna's mom gets emotional. She explains that she is sad but, she knows it's the right thing to do. I feel very sympathetic for Anna because she is a little worried, and so am I. Anna has to be away from her parents, for 7 weeks.
