The book goes back to the first original killer because somebody asked about it and it caused the detective to go back in his mind and retell the story of the EAR (East Area Rapist)

Basically there is a killer going around and he tries to SA his victims but he shoots them. The reason he didn't SA them is because he thought that the gun shots would attract police so he would kill, steal, and leave, kill, still, and leave over and over again and the police are following his past footsteps to get ahead of him and be able to catch him before he does it again.

It is giving the backstory on Cherri's life and how she is against someone named Greg, I don't know the relationship between them. Cherri is being defiant and keeps going back and forth between her mom and dads house and is having relationship problems and her life is in the dumps at this point and she had gotten a call to go back to her moms house and there was police tape there and that is where it stopped

One of the suspects is basically very bad at what he does and the detectives keep getting good descriptions of him. His victims also keep getting away because he can't kill them in enough time, but that all changed because killing started to be the first thing he did when he broke in. The reason is so that way he could also go through all of their stuff and flee before the cops came.
