The part of this chapter about finding photo graphs really struck a chord. Over Christmas I went through a similar scenario of going through pictures of my grandmother and they can really make you feel something.

I just get really happy when she finally makes Kimchi.

She records her first album she’ll release under Japanese Breakfast then goes on her honeymoon thinking she’ll return to become just another average American family. Bet this was a good surprise. Also what a lovely honeymoon, and great product placement opp for DuoLingo. lol

Nope… not out of his system yet. But she been desperately trying to fill this void or get rid of the memories. But really all she needed was some Korean influence.

Why have I never thought to do “my heart will go on” as a karaoke song???

Sure vacation after all that seems like the right thing to do, but we could all see things going terribly wrong. Then it did. Guess we’ll see if he got it out of his system.

Chapter 14. Lovely.

Probably my favorite chapter - at least so far. Talking about how weird funerals are to navigate. Grieving in your own way. Then touching note from the art teacher, and the talk about going through someone close’s belongings as if they’re a stranger. It’s so moving.

“I’ve just never met someone like you before.”

I guess when your mom dies you remember everything about that day. Down to the slanted eyes of the goats…. Which, honestly, are haunting every time I think about them.

I too cry when I see Mariska Hargitay.

What a beautiful wedding. Such joy to distract from the recent struggle.

Well I guess it was a little too early for the all is lost moment. “-a father, mother, and daughter holding one another. They were faceless, huddled close, connected as if whittled from the same piece of wood.”
