Began this book before, but didn't warm to it. However, something made me feel it deserved a re-read. The style takes some adjusting to, as he weaves in and out of his subject, but i am enjoying it so far, but there is still a long way to go.

First effort at reading this book was largely an irritation, soon discontinued. This time, the more I read of this the better it gets. The complex & varied style makes you feel like a squirrel flitting along the branches and twigs of a tree. It needs mental agility to follow the route he takes through his focus subjects, and at times is akin to leaping from a slim twig of one tree to another tree altogether.

The style takes some adjusting to, but is very rich. Moving intricately around a delicate chain of interlinked interests, all hung around the central character of Clare & his writing is fascinating. really enjoying this
