Just a few pages in. This is SO different from Allende's usual cast of characters. She's a brilliant writer, and I love love love her, I hope this doesn't fall in its face. Reminds me of when I tried to write a mystery in my college creative writing class and my classmates all giggle-snorted when they got to the end (this was not the intended response!)
