What happened in chapter 4 is that Nassun was in charger of the kids of his sister that recently passed away. He had to take them to the other part of the island and show them some magic but he later on encounters some problems with the island because since it doesn't have the obelisk its powers are not that good.

What happened in the book so far is Ykka a ten year old girl has been playing with an obelisk and the headmasters of the academy of stones or magic have been worried because those gems are really dangerous. And they have been suspecting that she may be the lost magician that they have been trying to find.

New characters were introduced. I read that Essun wakes up from coma and when she was becoming more conscious she finds out that her arm cant move and its really hard to do stuff without her other arm.
