Why so much detail. You could just say the clothes are black and ill fitting? Why these long descriptive paragraphs that fill up an entire page on mundane things?!
Also, I guess this book was written in a time of heightened societal issues. Just checking off the boxes.

I don’t like it so far. I don’t like time travel, I don’t like how much explanation goes into a simple thing. You can say a hallway is dark and damp without explaining the wall texture and the history and the lighting. I found myself saying “who cares?!” Out loud.. a lot.
