Finally though all the flash-backy, coming of age stuff and romping in the present! And am really digging the book now. Made me cry this morning. Much improved over first book in the series.

Not getting this whole desert spear thing. They break spears in every fight with every demon, yet they're in a tree-less desert. There's no trade. They use arrows like crazy and "scorpions" ballista for shooting huge spear projectiles. Which some at least must burn up by fire demons. So where does all this damn wood come from?
